About The Pickled Piper

JohnRaeThePickledPiper

The Pickled Piper is a well known and trusted supplier in the Edinburgh, Borders and Fife weddings and events scene. Established by John Rae in 2007, The Pickled Piper offers a level of confidence and customer care that only that personal touch can bring. It is not an agency!

John has many years of musical and events experience from his early days in the Scots Guards pipe band through to his time as secretary and player with the legendary police pipe band in Edinburgh. He has been the televised lone piper at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and has travelled the world with his bagpipes both with pipe bands and as a solo artiste.  He has performed for the Queen at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in Tobago and for Pope John Paul in The Vatican.  John is also a long standing performer at the famous Taste of Scotland Show at Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh, a venue where he has been granted the title of honorary Pipe Major and where this year, he performed for Prince Charles.

Trading as ‘The Pickled Piper’ John works with a small number of trusted piping friends who offer the highest standards of dress, deportment and musicality.  As well as solo pipers, the Pickled Piper also provides pipe bands and ceilidh bands to events and weddings across Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow and the Scottish Borders. He is the recommended supplier at many of Edinburgh’s finest venues including, Prestonfield House, Winton Castle, Melville Castle, Carlowrie Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, The Caves, Marlin’s Wynd, Mansfield Traquair, Signet Library etc. and is the chosen piper of the Scottish Government for various ministerial events held at Edinburgh Castle.

In booking through The Pickled Piper, you do so safe in the knowledge that your supplier comes with this pedigree and with the knowledge that we have the resilience to provide back up if any last minute problems arise.  You have no idea how many SOS calls we take from people let down at the last minute!
